Level 1
In this level, you learn simple vocabulary: nationalities, jobs, adjectives, personal objects, etc. You use basic verbs, such as être, avoir, aller, faire and venir as well as Group 1 verbs (which end in er) and certain Group 3 verbs (ending in ir, oir or re) in the present and immediate future tenses. Positive and negative sentences, and questions are also on the program. You learn to introduce yourself, talk about likes, dislikes and preferences, and to have a simple conversation with a French speaker.

Level 2
In Level 2, you finish studying the present tense (including Group 2 verbs, which end in ir, and reflexive verbs) before tackling the past tenses. You begin the present imperative, which will enable you to give instructions, to give advice and to advise against. The first object pronouns are introduced and you expand your vocabulary. By the end of the course, you are able to reserve a hotel room, order in a restaurant and shop for groceries. You can also describe your activities in the past, present and future.

Level 3
The time has come to fine tune your understanding of material learned earlier. Knowledge of the imperfect tense will enable you to distinguish past events and to describe things that happened in the past. Using the future tense, you will be able to make plans and form hypotheses. We also look at idioms.

Level 4
In Level 4, you learn how the conditional tense is used in polite language and to express conditions or hypotheses. Through the present subjunctive, you learn to refine your ideas and state your opinions. You are now ready to move on to higher levels where you will learn how to communicate more clearly. This level also helps you precisely situate yourself in time.

When you reach Level 6, you study the past subjunctive and learn to make tense agreements that enable you to express your ideas clearly and precisely. Your new understanding of the simple past tense opens the door to the amazing world of literature. As you progress, you will be able to express your opinions as well as defend them and debate various topics as a member of a team. Your fluency and spontaneity increase. You continue to enrich your vocabulary and use many idiomatic expressions.
