All students must pass a placement test before they can register for a course.

All students who have completed and passed a particular level or course and who wish to register in another level or course can do so without passing a placement test as long as it is done within 6 months of finishing the previous course.

Tests are free every Wednesday. The following are the times for placement testing for the different languages that we teach:

French and English :
12:30pm – 5:30pm
Spanish : 12:30pm – 5:30pm
Italian : 4:30pm – 5:30pm
Portuguese : 4:30pm – 5:30pm
Mandarin : 4:30pm – 5:30pm

There is a $20 charge for testing at all other times.

Our integrated skills program is offered weekday mornings from 9:00 to 12:00. This program covers all 8 levels, from beginner to advanced, allowing you to progressively learn grammatical rules and to obtain new vocabulary words. This will allow you to develop all four abilities required for English communication: verbal and written comprehension as well as verbal and written production. A significant share of the class time is set aside for conversational practice. Language lab time is also set aside so that students may practice listening and pronunciation. You are entitled to free access to our Fitness Centre while you are registered for the integrated skills program.

The main focus here is placed on the sounds of the English language, including vowels as they are used in American English. Time is also spent on consonants which are generally problematic for students. Part of the course also covers elision and stress. This course is given in our language labs.

The TOEFL iBT test is aimed at students who wish to study in a Canadian or American University and whose mother tongue is not English. Please go visit the TOEFL website for more information. This course focuses on improving on all four language skills: reading, writing, communication and verbal comprehension; all of these are necessary in order to prepare for the TOEFL iBT examination.
These four skill sets will be worked on together or more specifically based on your needs. Another important focus is developing strategies for passing the examination; you will be able to practice these strategies while undergoing mini-tests and online tests that are similar to TOEFL IBT.

This course is not your everyday English class. The focus is placed on improving the ease with which students speak and communicate, regardless of format.
